Google’s AI Mode Can Now Track Flights and Book Hotels for You
Google is pushing AI Mode further into travel territory, announcing Thursday that its conversational search tool can now track flight prices, help book hotels, and even show costs in points or miles rather than just cash.
The update signals a clear shift in ambition. Rather than simply helping users find travel information, Google AI Mode is now positioning itself as something closer to a functioning travel agent, capable of handling parts of the actual booking process rather than just pointing users toward other sites.
How Flight Price Tracking Works in Google AI Mode
Users can now describe their travel plans directly to Google AI Mode, specifying when and where they want to fly, and the tool pulls the best available options from more than 300 airlines and travel sites. Those ready to book can build their itinerary directly within the AI Mode interface.
For travelers hoping prices might drop before committing, a simple request like “track these flight prices for me” sets up ongoing monitoring. Users then receive an email notification if prices shift for their specified destination and travel dates. This flight tracking feature is now live in more than 180 countries, making it one of the broader international rollouts Google has attempted for an AI Mode feature so far.
Hotel Booking Comes to Google AI Mode
Beyond flights, Google AI Mode now supports full hotel discovery and booking through conversation. Users can describe their upcoming trip and specific hotel preferences, and the tool returns a curated list of options complete with reviews and relevant details to help with decision-making.
Once a user settles on a hotel, they can ask Google AI Mode to help finalize the booking. That process involves selecting “Continue on Google,” which routes the booking through one of Google’s integrated partners, including major hotel chains and travel platforms. From there, users choose their room, review policies like cancellation terms, and complete payment through Google Pay. Importantly, Google clarified that the hotel or booking platform itself, not Google, handles the actual reservation and any customer service needs afterward.
Which Hotel Partners Are Involved
The hotel booking functionality has started rolling out in the US in English, with broader availability expected over the coming weeks. Confirmed partners include Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, giving users access to a fairly comprehensive range of major hospitality brands right out of the gate.
Booking With Points and Miles
Google AI Mode also now supports point and mile-based searches, letting users ask questions like requesting nonstop flight options between two cities using a specific airline’s mileage program for particular departure and return dates. The tool then displays exactly how many miles are needed to book matching flights that fit those criteria.
This particular feature is available globally starting immediately, unlike the hotel booking rollout, which remains limited to the US for now. For frequent travelers who accumulate miles across multiple loyalty programs, this addition could meaningfully simplify comparing cash versus points value across different booking options.
What This Means for Travel Booking Going Forward
These updates represent one of Google’s more ambitious pushes into functional AI assistance rather than pure information retrieval. By handling flight tracking, hotel discovery, and points-based comparisons within a single conversational interface, Google AI Mode is directly competing with dedicated travel booking platforms and apps that have historically owned this part of the trip-planning process.
Whether users trust an AI conversational tool with something as detail-sensitive as travel bookings remains to be seen, but the breadth of this rollout, spanning 180 countries for flight tracking and major hotel brands for bookings, suggests Google is treating this as a serious long-term bet rather than an experimental feature.
