Meta’s AI Agent Muse Just Got a Face, a Job on Your Mac, and Its Own Email
Meta AI agent Muse is only a few weeks old, but the social networking giant isn’t wasting any time building out what may be its biggest bet on consumer AI to date. CEO Mark Zuckerberg kicked off Meta’s annual Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday with a keynote making one thing unmistakably clear: Meta is going all-in on Muse.
The agent, whose physical avatar is named Jolly according to Zuckerberg, is designed to handle everyday tasks by connecting directly to users’ apps and services, including email and calendars. At Connect, Zuckerberg unveiled a wave of new capabilities and integrations aimed at making Muse more useful and more deeply woven into users’ daily lives, with plans for it to eventually run everywhere a user chooses, including on Meta’s AI glasses.
Zuckerberg’s Big Bet on Meta AI Agent Muse
Muse, which launched in early September, is powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s multimodal AI model built specifically for agentic work. Meta has positioned it as more accessible than competing agents, an AI helper designed from day one to automate the busy work cluttering people’s lives.
“The centerpiece of our vision for what we’re building is Muse,” Zuckerberg said during the keynote. “In the coming years, I expect that Muse is going to grow into the personal superintelligence that billions of people around the world are going to use to accomplish their goals and improve their lives.”
Zuckerberg also believes Meta AI agent Muse will eventually generate real money for both users and Meta itself. “We’re standing behind this by making Muse free for a huge number of tokens, with the expectation that over time we will profit by taking a small fee from transactions,” he said.
Muse Gets Its Own Digital Avatar
One of the more striking announcements involves giving Muse users the ability to conjure a distinct digital avatar for their personal agent, then video chat with it in real time. A new AI model called Muse Realtime Avatar powers this feature, according to the company.
The idea is to give Meta’s previously faceless AI software an actual face, body, and voice, making interactions feel significantly more personal. The feature, demoed live on stage at Connect, carries a distinctly Metaverse-adjacent flavor, letting users hold live conversations with their avatar, assigning tasks and asking questions directly.
Meta AI Agent Muse Is Coming to Meta’s Smart Glasses
Muse will also integrate directly with Meta’s smart glasses line, meaning users will soon be able to talk to their agent simply by speaking aloud to their glasses. The agent activates through a wake word, according to the company, and will be able to guide users through personalized workouts, log meals, book appointments, and help purchase products they happen to see in front of them.
Meta says Muse will work quietly in the background and check back in once a task is complete. An exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed, though Meta says the feature should arrive sometime “in the coming months.”
Soon, Muse Could Run Your Mac Entirely
Meta also confirmed it’s bringing full Muse computer control to Mac, building on capabilities the company had previously teased. This means users will be able to delegate tasks directly to the agent, with Muse operating any app on a user’s desktop, similar to competing agentic tools from OpenAI and Anthropic.
“You can have it help you run your small business, or just get work done for you,” Meta’s chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said during the keynote. “You can walk away from your computer and it keeps working for you on all the jobs you lined up.”
Muse Will Get Its Own Email Address
Since Meta AI agent Muse will constantly work in the background, it naturally needs its own dedicated email address, a feature Wang confirmed the company is actively developing and plans to release “soon,” without offering a more precise timeline. Users will also be able to add Muse directly to email threads or forward emails to the agent for it to handle on their behalf.
Major Shopping Partnerships Are Rolling Out
Meta has locked in partnerships with major payment platforms Stripe and Shopify, signaling just how central shopping is to Muse’s broader strategy. According to Wang, Muse can access the entire Shopify product catalog agentically, using Lync and Shop Pay to purchase almost anything available online, with Meta also expanding payment support through PayPal.
The company additionally announced new retail partnerships spanning Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair. Muse will connect with these retail apps alongside Expedia, and soon, Instacart, with additional connectors including GitHub, Granola, and Notion rounding out its growing ecosystem.
Wang emphasized that Meta also wants Muse connecting with small businesses directly. The company recently opened its platform to let developers build their own custom connectors, receiving more than 1,500 applications in less than a week. “I think this could be a generational opportunity to start building for a new platform as it takes off, and the response so far has been really great,” Wang said.
